‘Holy Cow’ EP – work in progress …

So, I’m taking a little bit of space now to focus on the completion of my next EP, and the adaptation of my live show. New toys, new sounds, but still me. This new release is a scrap-book of field recordings and songs collected on a recent trip to India/Nepal, where I joined the congregation of an old friend’s wedding, and took the opportunity to study Indian Classical singing for a month in Kolkata, before taking to the Nepali Hills to do some trekking. It was a really valuable creative experiment to take myself completely outside of my everyday life, and challenge my process. I also collected some pretty cool sounds too – donkey bells, rickshaws, monsoon thunder storms…. ! Please follow my blog to keep up with my progress (top left scroller), or check out the ‘Listen’ page to hear my debut EP, ‘Seed Bud Bloom’, and maybe even grab a sneaky peak at tracks from the new EP  as they unfold…

FEMME de MUSIQUE

A new female-led music night, at The Greenbank, Easton, hosted by Eko Collective

Our first UK tour marked the beginning of a new Bristol-based music night that aims to give a platform to quality female-led music projects in and around the area. The night seeks to re-address the gender balance in gig line-ups, by offering more opportunities to women, and projects that have women in them. Even in 2015, we see that only 14% of PRS members are women, and 15-30% of the bands we see in festival line-ups have a woman in them. There is just so much more to be heard from this other half of our population. This night is not just for girls either. We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response from so many men who would also like to hear more women sharing their music, or play in environments where the gender gap is more balance. Our first night will be headlined by co-founder of The World is Listening, Nuala Honan, supported by African-jazz songstress Sisanda Mayataza, hosted by my vocal project, The Eko Trio. Please check out my blog & gig listings for more info.
